The historical reenactment of Medioevo a Valvasone is one of the best-loved and most popular events in the Friulian summer, now in its 32nd edition!

 

Every year, the village of Valvasone opens its doors wide to welcome you and immerse you in the dreamlike atmosphere of the Middle Ages, faithfully reconstructed and relived through shows, animations, glimpses and table settings.
An immersive and engaging experience in which all participants feel like true protagonists.

Evening has fallen on the Borgo of Valvasone.
A roar of fire illuminates the town walls. Fire-eaters have arrived in Valvasone for an unprecedented opening note.
Fulgor Noctis is titled.

 

Fulgore is both fire, which must burn in a knight’s heart, and gladness, which is acquired in Paradise. Joy, happiness, serenity, as when one smiles. In contrast, the flames, vivid and bright, of hell, where the shadow is gloomy, as much as the mind is saddened.

 

Hasten oh all! People, join the grand procession for the cavalier novello, Jacopo is his name! It is time for rejoicing! Let the fire show begin.
Here the night marks the beginning of the festivities. From this exact moment, the Middle Ages come alive again in Valvasone.

The 2025 Theme

Orientis Partibus.

 

Prepare for a journey along the roads of the world and of history, toward distant, ancient, and mysterious places.
In the 2025 edition of Medioevo a Valvasone, the village opens itself to new horizons and transforms into a crossroads of distant worlds. The chosen theme, “Orientis Partibus,” is inspired by a famous medieval chant celebrating the arrival of a donkey from the East—a symbol of humility, toil, and dignity.

 

But behind this simple image lies an epic journey: that of Friar Giovanni da Pian del Carpine, a Franciscan friar and one of the first Europeans to reach the court of the Khans in the 13th century. Sent by Pope Innocent IV as a messenger of peace, he crossed Central Asia and left behind a precious account in his Historia Mongalorum.

 

Through this theme, Medioevo a Valvasone 2025 tells the story of the encounter between East and West—two worlds that brush against each other, observe one another, and listen. In a jubilee year, the message is powerful and timely: only knowledge and dialogue can break down the borders of fear.
